Department of science and Technology government of Jharkhand is adamant to produce technical men power for the prosperity of the state because the huge demand of existing industries in Jharkhand as well as India. Under the department there are thirteen Government polytechnics with total intake (2185) in different disciplines, three private polytechnics with total intake (870) in different disciplines, two Pharmacy institutes with total intake 150 and five Management institutes with total intake (760) and five Women industrial schools with intake 1000.

In Government sector seven polytechnics at Silli, Gola , Chandil, Pakur , Bahragora, Jaganathpur and Garhwa are coming up with 300 intake each. Seventeen Polytechnics will be set up with the help of Central Government at different locations in the state in the 11th five year plan.
