Department of Science & Technology, Jharkhand is responsible for the governance and establishment of technical institutes imparting technical education leading to the award of diploma, degree and post graduate in engineering, management, pharmacy, and computer applications etc. It is also responsible for the conduct of research in different fields of engineering. Some of the main functions and objectives of the department is as given below:
- To establish the organizational structure for the efficient administration of the department with the primary objective of delegation of duty for fixation of responsibility at each level as also to ensure transparency in governance.
- Administration and monitoring of the various activities of the institutions imparting technical education.
- Establishment of new technical institutions, up-gradation of the existing institutions and implementation of new projects.
- Encouragement of faculty development through QIP / STTP etc.
- To provide technical assistance to the industries.
- Financial assistance to the state governed institutions for equipment, technical books, journals and for maintenance.
- Constitution and administration of State Board of Technical Education and other constituted Boards/ Councils related to advancement of technical education.
- Financial and technical support to the technical institutions for their infrastructure development.
- To interact and engage in sharing knowledge with Geological Survey of India for the exhaustive survey and estimation of mineral reserves in the State. Assessment of the need and resource based areas for the technological advancement for the optimum utilization of the existing reserves.
- To advise the Government on the feasibility of establishment of various industries.
- Introduction of new engineering curriculum like Bio-technology, Nano-technology, Cryogenics etc. in the existing courses.
- Conducting national/international seminars on relevant topics for the up-gradation of science and technology.
- To accelerate the process of institute industry interaction by playing the role of a catalyst.
