Objectives by 2007
- Increase Vitamin A coverage in children 9-59 months to 85%
- Increase IFA coverage among Pregnant and Lactating Women to 80%.
- Increase IFA coverage among children aged 12-59 months to 50%
- Increase TT2 coverage among pregnant women to 90%
- Increase Complete Primary Immunization by age one year to 50%
- Increase exclusive breastfeeding till age 6 months to 60%
Long Term Objectives
The Jharkhand government has decided to formulate an integrated state-specific population and RCH policy. Policy formulation was aided by research, analysis of existing information, sharing issues and challenges in workshops, and consultative meetings with a wide range of stakeholders. In addition, the National Population Policy and other relevant policies have been taken into consideration.
Population Stabilization Objectives
Achieve replacement level fertility by 2020 Improve knowledge of modem spacing methods from current levels to above 90% by 2005 Increase use of modern ontraceptives from 25% in 1999 to 60% in 2015.
Reproductive and Child Health Policy Objectives
- Provide three antenatal check-ups, two doses of-TI injections and a sufficient quantity of IFA tablets to 60% of pregnant women by 2005, 70% by 2010, and above 85% by 2015
- Increase safe deliveries from the level of 22% in 1999 to 35% in 2005, 50% in 2010, and above 75% in 2015.
- Provide services to persons suffering from RTIs in all block primary health centres (PHCs) by 2005 and in all PHCs by 2010.
- Reduce RTIs to below 10% among men and women by 2010.
- Increase complete immunization coverage from 9% in 1999 to 40% by 2005, to 70% by 2010, and to 100% by 2015.
- Eradicate polio and declare Jharkhand as a polio-free state by 2005.
- Increase breastfeeding 'practices within the first hour of birth and exclusive breastfeeding for the six months to 50% in 2005, and above 70% in 2010.
- Reduce deaths due to acute respiratory infections and diarrhea among children.
- Increase awareness of AIDS from 1 5% in 1 999 to above 70% in 2005 and achieve zero growth in HIV/AIDS infections
