LarLarge percentage of schedule tribe and schedule caste population of the state
live in and around the forests. They depend on forests for daily livelihood and
energy requirement. The dynamics on forests - forest dweller relationship,
therefore demands a shift in focus, with greater emphasis on programmes which
offer sustainable employment / livelihood alternatives to forest dwellers .
Effective and efficient decentralized management of forest resources through
village level institutions will not only allow the rural and tribal people to
meet their basic needs, it will also augment their income and thus alleivate
poverty and assure future generations a green and healthy Jharkhand.
To achieve these goals and to ensure the long term sustained development, the
Vision Statement of the Forests and Environment Department, Jharkhand is:
