One of the most important components for realization of the vision for the agriculture sector will be exploiting the full irrigation potential of the State. This will include completion of on going major irrigation projects and renovation of the older system and encouragement of traditional irrigation system like ponds, tanks and check dams etc. Through these an additional irrigation potential of 9.81 lakh hectares will be created.

The other main components of the agricultural strategy will be

• Shifting from traditional mono-cropping to multiple cropping ,horticulture and diversified agriculture
• Organic and integrated scientific farming
• Better management of natural resources for sustainable agriculture
• Post harvest management and processing
